Your Face Can Tell The Future
Wayne's Notes from the album:
"Fear of the unknown future or the unstoppable urge to consider a future that is worse than the present... it's a mysterious ego bubble that I wish I could burst. I am not a pessimist, but I often expect the worst... though I hope I do it with a smile. And so, I believe, this is a song about the aftermath of my mother's death. Perhaps it happens to everyone... but I found it NOT to be the devastating cutting of some invisible umbilical chord. It was quite the strange but, somehow, I felt more connected to my mother and to my past life and more powerfully aware of who she was and who I was. She had not left us to walk down life's dark road alone... it was as if, because of her death, we somehow instinctually understood more about this dark road... and feared it less."

Your face can tell the future
I remember tracing the lines on your face
Thinking we were going to some wonderful place
Now it's taking us somewhere
I know your face can tell the future
And the future's looking bad
And the future makes you sad
And the future comes along
And changes everything, it changes everything
Now we're living in the future
Writing on our hands
Don't forget to leave the light on
To see where we began
Now we're living in the future
Living in a land
Where experience can't help us
Now we're doing the best we can
And the future's looking bad
And the future makes you sad
And the future comes along
And changes everything, it changes everything
And now we're living in the future
Writing on our hands
Don't forget to leave the light on
To see where we began
Now we're living in the future
Living in a land
Where experience can't help us
Now we're doing the best we can
We're doing the best we can
But it's hard to understand
What we thought was going to be
Well we couldn't really see
But we see it clearly now
I don't know why and I don't know how
Somehow losing all you have
Gives you everything you need
I remember tracing the lines on your face
Thinking we were going to some wonderful place
Now it's taking us somewhere
I know your face can tell the future
And the future makes you sad
And the future comes along
And changes everything, it changes everything
Writing on our hands
