Like on The Soft Bulletin, "What Is The Light?" has often segued into "The Observer" in live shows. The pair was frequently played in The Soft Bulletin era and was used to close out many shows during the Yoshimi period. Since then, it has only made a one-off appearance at Bonnaroo 2007 and was sound checked for the 2005 Xingolati cruise festival. The backing video consists of images of space and 2001: A Space Odyssesy to accompany the song's subtitled hypothesis.
