The Switch That Turns Off The Universe
Wayne's Notes from the Album:
"This song ended up being strange but powerful. I believe I was railing against these religious baffoons who easily dismiss the wonders of science and discoveries of the mind as being insignificant in the face of 'God' ...Don't they see that the more we understand about ourselves and our universe, the less we need 'God' ... 'God' is a concept and a symbol of our desire that the things we cannot control will show mercy on us."
"The Switch That Turns Off The Universe" is, along with "We Can't Predict The Future" and "It Remained Unrealizable," one of three original songs from 1999 that were broadcast as part of a Peel Session on BBC radio. These were all included on The Soft Bulletin 5.1.

They have begun
Building their complex construction
Intended from the first
To sacrifice the universe
They have today
Another piece goes away
Once it starts it can't be reversed
When switching off the universe
If there's a way I'd like to stop them
For once I feel significant
If there's a way I'd try to change them
For once I feel significance
They have begun
The start of obliteration
I'm still surprised it works
They're switching off the universe
Building their complex construction
Intended from the first

Once it starts it can't be reversed
