Strychnine
Wayne's Notes from A Collection Of Songs Representing An Enthusiasm For Recording...By Amateurs: The Flaming Lips 1984-1990:
"Recorded in one take with one-guitar over-dub at the end of the 'Telepathic' sessions...Sub-Pop asked us to do a cover of this Sonics' (they're from Seattle) song for their 'single of the month' series and for some reason which I can't remember now, we fused it with this Elvis Costello cover..."
The Lips covered The Sonics' "Strychnine" on the Drug Machine single issued by Sub-Pop, segueing into the Elvis Costello and the Attractions version of Nick Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love And Understanding" on the same track.

Flaming Lips Version
Some folks like water
Some folks like wine
But I like the taste
Of straight strychnine
You may think it's funny
That I like this stuff
But once you've tried it
You can't get enough
Wine is red
Poison is blue
Strychnine is good
For what's ailin' you, yeah!
Strychnine, strychnine, strychnine
Wine is red
Poison is blue
Strychnine is good
For what's ailin' you
Some folks like water
Some folks like wine
But I like the taste
Of straight strychnine
