"Slow Nerve Action" was one of the first songs that Steven ever wrote.

"Slow Nerve Action" was rarely played while Ronald was with the Lips but became a regular part of the setlist during the Soft Bulletin tour with Steven's prerecorded drums portrayed on the video screen and Steven and Michael both on guitar. It also resurfaced briefly in 2005, with live drums provided by Kliph. In May 2009, it tied for first with "Bad Days" in a poll on The Flaming Lips Messageboard to determine the song that fans most wanted to hear in future shows.
