Moonlight Mile
The Lips selected this Rolling Stones song to cover in part because it is one of Kliph's favorite songs of all-time and the Bonnaroo 2007 gig was taking place on his birthday.
Flaming Lips Version
When the wind blows, and the rain feels cold
With a head full of snow
With a head full of snow
At the window there's a face you know
Don't the nights pass slow
Don't the nights pass slow
The sound of strangers sending nothing to my mind
It's just another mad mad day on the road
I am just living to be riding by your side
Just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Made a rag pile of my shiny clothes
Gonna warm my bones
Gonna warm my bones
I got silence on my radio
Let the air waves flow
Let the air waves fuckin' flow
Oh I'm sleeping under strange strange skies
It's just another mad mad day on the road
My dream is fading down the railway line
'Cause I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
I'm hiding sister but I'm dreaming
I'm running down your moonlight mile
I'm hiding sister but I'm dreaming
I'm running down your moonlight mile
I'm running down your moonlight mile
Let it go
Yeah, I'm coming home
And I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
On down the road, ro-oh-oh-oh-oad
When the wind blows, and the rain feels cold
With a head full of snow
With a head full of snow
At the window there's a face you know
Don't the nights pass slow
Don't the nights pass slow
It's just another mad mad day on the road
I am just living to be riding by your side
Just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Gonna warm my bones
Gonna warm my bones
I got silence on my radio
Let the air waves flow
Let the air waves fuckin' flow
It's just another mad mad day on the road
My dream is fading down the railway line
'Cause I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
I'm running down your moonlight mile
I'm hiding sister but I'm dreaming
I'm running down your moonlight mile
I'm running down your moonlight mile
Let it go
And I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
On down the road, ro-oh-oh-oh-oad
Discography Appearances
Live
The modern cover of "Moonlight Mile" debuted at Bonnaroo 2007, worked up specifically for that show, but retained in the setlist as the last encore song through the summer and fall dates of 2007. The backing video uses the mirror ball until the last section of the song, when the moon and star field are shown, gently ending the show. In 1992, Wayne and Jonathan performed a show under the pseudonym Black Halos, including a cover of "Moonlight Mile."
